Yoga, Volume I: The 14 Asanas

The 14 Asanas of the Gheranda Samhita

This book was written because classical Hatha Yoga deserves to be read in its own voice. The fourteen asanas presented here are not a modern selection. They are the first fourteen postures taught in the second chapter of the Gheranda Samhita, one of the three foundational manuals of the Hatha Yoga tradition, preserved in the order their author set down centuries ago. No postures have been added to suit contemporary taste, and none have been removed for being unfamiliar or difficult. The sequence belongs to the text, not to us.
